Biotechnology is biology-based technology. It is used mostly in the fields of agriculture, pharmacy, food science, forest sciences and medicine. This term was probably first used in 1919 by a Hungarian engineer called Karl Ereky.
It can be defined as “any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use”.
