Antibodies

Antibodies are glycoproteins (proteins bound with sugars) (immunoglobulins) secreted by plasmocytes, a specific type of cell. Plasmocytes are the result of the proliferation and differentiation of activated B lymphocytes. Their aim is to recognise invading foreign bodies as bacteria and viruses to keep the organism free from them. Producing antibodies is part of the humoural immune response.
